    Upload your own

BudgetDedicated offers the wides range of Linux distributions. But we know there is nothing like your own self-installed server. We can run any Linux distribution without much problems. This means that we can run yours too. If you have an installation of a server ready on a box at home, or on a VPS or dedicated server elsewhere we can run it for you on our platform. This process is also called Physical to Virtual Migration (the latter is called Virtual to Virtual migration).

Another way is to do a full bootstrap of the system on-line, through our unique RescueOS feature. This way you need no upload and have fast access to distribution repositories.

    The basic method is:

    1. Make a tar.gz of the Linux system, make sure you skip /proc and /sys. You do need empty /proc and /sys dirs in your tarball, just don't copy the data in it.
For example, as root, type the following:

      # tar -cpzf /myserver-hda1.tar.gz / --exclude=myserver-hda1.tar.gz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/sys
    2. Preserve the permissions and special files (/dev/*)
    3. Edit your fstab to mount / on hda1 en swap on hda2. Hda1 will be ext3.
    4. Change network configuration to contain the IPs you got from us (We'll discuss this through mail or tickets with you)
    5. Upload that tarball to us (ftp://upload:upload@upload.budgetdedicated.com).
      For example, like this:

      # lftp -e 'put /hda1.tar.gz' upload:upload@upload.budgetdedicated.com
    6. Tell us you uploaded the tarball and which filename you used.
    7. We will create a filesystem (ext3 on hda1), extract your tarball here, insert modules and boot with our own kernel.
    8. It is as simple as that!

If you have any questions about the above, please don't hesitate to ask them.
